AI Brainstorming Prompts
AI brainstorming works differently from human brainstorming. It excels at generating volume, combining unexpected ideas, and exploring constraints. These prompts leverage those strengths.
1. Constraint-Based Ideation
Best: ChatGPTI need ideas for [goal/challenge]. Generate 15 ideas with these constraints: 5 that cost nothing, 5 that take less than a week, and 5 that are "wild card" (ambitious but possible). For each, give me: the idea in one sentence, why it might work, the biggest risk, and a first step. Don't self-censor - include bad ideas too.
Constraints paradoxically increase creativity. ChatGPT generates volume quickly for filtering.
2. Reverse Brainstorm
Best: ClaudeI want to [goal]. Instead of brainstorming solutions, brainstorm all the ways to guarantee failure at this goal. List 10 ways to absolutely ensure [goal] never happens. Then, for each failure mode, identify the opposite action that would help succeed. This reveals blind spots and hidden assumptions.
Reverse brainstorming surfaces risks you wouldn't normally consider. Claude thinks through failure modes thoroughly.
3. Cross-Industry Inspiration
Best: ClaudeI'm stuck on [problem] in [my industry]. Show me how 5 completely different industries solved analogous problems: for each, describe the industry, the analogous problem they faced, their solution, and specifically how I could adapt their approach to my situation. Industries to consider: [suggest or let AI choose surprising ones].
The best innovations come from cross-pollination. Claude draws non-obvious parallels between domains.
4. SCAMPER Method
Best: ChatGPTApply the SCAMPER method to [product/service/idea]: Substitute (what components could be swapped?), Combine (what could be merged?), Adapt (what could be borrowed from elsewhere?), Modify (what could be enlarged/minimized?), Put to other use (how else could this be used?), Eliminate (what's unnecessary?), Reverse (what if you flipped the order?). Give 2 specific ideas for each letter.
SCAMPER works best on existing products. ChatGPT follows structured frameworks well and generates quantity.
5. Idea Stress Test
Best: ClaudeStress test this idea: [describe idea]. Play these roles: 1) The Optimist: best-case scenario and why this could be huge, 2) The Pessimist: worst-case scenario and what kills this, 3) The Pragmatist: what would actually happen step by step, 4) The Customer: honest reaction on hearing this pitch, 5) The Investor: what questions I'd ask. Be genuinely tough.
Claude embodies different perspectives convincingly. Use this before committing resources to an idea.
